Dornes "Aldeia Do Fim Do Mundo" / Barragem Castelo de Bode / Castelo Almourol and boat trip

Once again we took Sunday to go on some sight-seeing here in Portugal ;)  First some information about the places we visited and then photos, enjoy!

Dornes
Dornes is a tiny vila bordered by the river Zêzere that in times served as a strategic military point.  Dornes has a charm all of it’s own and a mixture of culture and nature, unfortunately it’s starting to lose it’s population especially the younger members.  It is hidden in the deep Portugal and portraits a rural country that has been forgotten in time.
The first time a journalist heard about Dornes was in 2007, with the movie "Dot.com". In the film, Dornes is "Águas Altas" (curiously very close by there is Águas Belas), a village in the interior of Portugal in which an engineer creates a website, in order to get funding to improve access. A Spanish company called "Drinam" does not like to see the name of a brand of theirs, the "Águas Altas", appropriated online by this small Portuguese site and the intrigue is born, a social chronicle and customs full of humour, where they parody the effects of political-economic-journalistic interests, and the struggle of a small community to survive.

The vila of Dornes was closely linked to the Templars. Its pentagonal tower was erected by Gualdim Pais (1118-1195), who was Grand Master of the Order of the Templars in Portugal, as part of a defensive system of the Tagus Line against the Moors, which included Tomar. It has various restaurants and cafés where you can have lunch but note some are better than others I can strongly recommend Rio, the food is excellent and the prices very affordable ;)

Sopa rica de peixe / rich fish soup

Ensopado de borrego / Lamb stew
Ovos mexidos com farinheira / scambled eggs with farinheira
 Lemon cheese cake

Castelo de Bode Dam
Castelo de Bode Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam situated on the Zêzere River, a tributary of the Tagus River, located southwest of Tomar and north of Constância, in the District of Santarém, Portugal. It is one of the tallest structures in Portugal. The dam was constructed between 1945 and 1951.  It is surrounded by leafy vegetation in which the pine forest is predominant, the reservoir offers excellent conditions for water sports or simply for leisure and contact with nature. There is also a boat cruise, which will take you through the breath-taking scenery of the corners of this bay, such as Loch Island, a piece of land where there is an inn, ideal to spend a few days in absolute tranquillity.

Castelo de Almourol
The Castle of Almourol, in Ribatejo, is located in the Parish of Ribatejo Beach, Vila Nova da Barquinha County, Santarém District, Portugal, although its location is often attributed to Tancos, since it is the village from which it is glimpsed the best.
Raised on a granite outcrop 18 m above sea level, on a small island 310 m long and 75 m wide, in the middle course of the river Tagus.
It is one of the most representative examples of the military architecture of the time, evoking simultaneously the beginnings of the kingdom of Portugal and the Order of the Templars, an association that reinforces the aura of mystery and romanticism.
