25 de Abril in Sintra

Today being a public holiday we decided to take a trip to beautiful Sintra.

Sintra is a picturesque town nestled in the hills of Portugal, known for its fairytale-like landscapes, colorful palaces, and romantic architecture. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has been a favorite retreat for Portuguese royalty and nobility for centuries. The town is dotted with stunning landmarks like the Pena Palace, Moorish Castle, and Quinta da Regaleira, making it a must-visit destination for travelers seeking charm and history.

Just as important it's also our Bella's first birthday! Yes she was born on the 25th of April an important date for many Portuguese.

April 25th holds significant historical importance for Portugal as it marks the Carnation Revolution of 1974, which ended decades of dictatorship and paved the way for democracy. It's celebrated as Freedom Day, symbolizing the triumph of democracy and the end of authoritarian rule in Portugal. as Freedom Day, symbolizing the triumph of democracy and the end of authoritarian rule in Portugal.

Naturally many Portuguese that lived in the then colonies like Mozambique, Angola etc do not agree as it was anything but a peaceful handing over to the leaders there.
