Sunday was the grand finale of summer, and we decided to give it a proper send-off. The family itinerary was a rollercoaster of errands, snacks, medieval knights, and a little divine intervention (or lack thereof).
First stop: Colombo Shopping, because “dear daughter” had something urgent to buy (priorities, right?). With mission accomplished, we zoomed over to Marvila, where a medieval feast was happening. Nothing says end of summer like knights, jesters, and the faint smell of roasted meat in the air.
Next on the food tour: Docas. Unfortunately, nothing on the menu spoke to dear daughter’s highly selective palate, so off we went again—this time across the river to Almada for croissants so good they should come with a drumroll. Only catch? They took forever. Honestly, medieval banquets seemed quicker.
By then, time wasn’t on our side, but we still aimed high—literally—at Cristo Rei. For the record: this statue is 110 meters tall (including the pedestal), inspired by Rio’s Christ the Redeemer, and was inaugurated in 1959 as a symbol of gratitude for Portugal being spared the destruction of WWII. Impressive, right? Sadly, thanks to the croissant delay, the lifts had already closed. So, we admired the spectacular view from below—because let’s be honest, Lisbon from any angle is a masterpiece. Notice how windy by my fly-away hair 👅
Moral of the story: summer may be over, but family adventures (and snack detours) never are.
Look at the gorgeous pictures!
