Hamburg in one day!

Is it possible to see a lot of Hamburg in one day?  Oh yes it is!  Take a look at our itinerary.

From the airport we left our lugage at the "left bagage" and caught the S1 to Hamburg centre getting off at Hamburg Central Station. The station is exactly between the 2 terminals and the tickets cost us 3,30€ each.  Just as information to others that might be considering doing this we left Lisbon at 6:30 and arrived at 10:55 (note that in Hamburg it's 1hr more).  We returned to Hamburg airport at 20:30 and slept over till our next flight to London at 6:30 on the 6th ;)

We managed to see all of the following in one day, so yes it's possibkle and we did not kill ourselves in the process :)
After leaving the Central Station turn left and then right into Monckbergstrabe and just admire the shops. After passing Park Hyatt turn left where you'll find Hauptkirche St. Jacobi, at the end of the street turn right and go past Mac Donalds (maybe eat something here), and continue till you reach Sankt Petri church, the oldest in town.  Straight after the church turn right and go along Monckbergstrabbe till the top and turn left and continue to Rauthaus where you can rest and take everything in. Also go and check out Hafen city and all it's little bridges (amazing)!  Not to be missed too is is the large artificial lake  Binnenalster.

Some notes:-

·         Flughafen means airport and  Hbf or Hauptbahnhof means central station.
·      Want place to have a panoramic view of Hamburg? Try these rooftops 20UPBar e Clouds.
·         Next up, head for the green coppula and large tower clock of St. Michael’s Church. Climbing   up to the platform is an absolute must. You won't be treated to a better view over the city from anywhere else. Hungry? It’s about time for lunch. Find a table at one of the many restaurants in the Portuguese Quarter just south of the 'Michel' (as St. Michael's is called by locals).  My personal opinion :)  I found the people of Hamburg very somber and I hardly saw anyone smile (wtf) their fashion sense was also (wtf) and around central station their were more other nationalities than German people.  Although somber people, at the airport they did speak English and were helpful, so maybe it's just me that found this... :)
